March to Marathon: DAY ONE!

Originally, I started this blog to loose that last ten pounds. After loosing my first fifteen by becoming a devout vegetarian, cutting out artificial anything and, essentially, sucking the butter out of my life, I figured continuing these rituals would make me all the girl I wanted to be- or rather- less of the girl that I really, really wanted to be. Much to my dismay, however, the last ten pounds still have yet to stay off for longer than a week.

After going through somewhat of a calorie packed pity party at my coffee-house job this morning- which consisted of coffee atop ice-cream and cream cheese drenched jalepeno bagels- I watched a person jog by as the sun came up.

Not a new idea to me, I have been running since I was little, even winning competitions, umm... in the sixth grade. These days, running usually consists of treading through hot air for about ten minutes whilst singing my own rendition of "I hate running" and then walking inside a wheezing, sweating mess.

So while I took the last bit of my blueberry scone which I had cut in half and  spread with melted butter and jiggled it into my mouth, I decided something:

I want to run a marathon.

No really, I'm serious. Really. I want to go from a quarter-mile running klutz with a frantic personality to a 26.2 mile running klutz with a frantic personality. Just once, I would like to see myself take on a great, almost impossible challenge and actually follow through.

Easier said than done, though, because after getting off work, doing homework and preparing for my move this September, I really only slip in a meager five hours of sleep if I'm lucky.

To do this, I'm going to somehow have to fit in time to not just run, but keep running consistently day by day. With this, I am setting a deadline:

The Los Angeles Marathon is March 21, 2010.

... 222 days.

I have 222 days to somehow convince myself this is actually a good idea and be prepared for the torture that is pushing across pavement. I have 222 days to take everything in stride and march on. I have until March to run a marathon. Woo. Hoo.

Day ONE begins today. So with that, I'm off to WALK three miles, which, according to my advice bearing mom, is the proper way to condition one's body before actually running.

Wish me luck,
Gotta Run,

Brooke

Andrew is getting fit said...

I don't know if your running plan outlined on the right is such a good idea. What I did was start with Couch to 5K. www.c25K.com. Then I did the one hour runner.

And so on and so forth.
